Compendium DS is a piece of software that is an integral part to U101.

It is a concept mapping software developed by the Open University. Similar to mind maps, it allows you to place elements (called nodes) and then connect them together with arrows. Unlike mind maps though, each node can support the inclusion of digital assets like video, photographs, PDFs and other documents. These can then be arranged as required.

All of the assignments for U101 are laid out and developed in CompendiumDS.

This is a sample NODE note, for my stab at the first assignment of the course:

Overall it is an easy piece of software to use. On the Mac I have had no issues with it. Coming from working with mind mapping software, I find this quite easy to use. I see some people using Windows have had issues. Generally because their antivirus blocks its use.

On the Systems Thinking and Education courses I have taken, we also used a different variety of this software. This version is easier to use.
