This is a holding post for interesting resources I have found around storytelling.

If you have any great resources I should look at, please drop me a message below – Thanks

1 – A visual from Cogni+ive:

Storytelling visual

THIS is a link to Christopher Booker’s wikipedia page on the seven plots.

2 – 7 Pillars of Storytelling

Colin Horner, a graphic scribe from South Africa, suggested this resource from Sparkol. The PDF is an interesting read and has some video clips in to augment the reading. Thanks Colin. Click this link to download the ebook: The Seven Pillars of Storytelling.

3 – HBR Article

A short PDF from Harvard on how leaders can use stories. Short, but worth a read. Article is HERE.

4 – Leadership storytelling

A three and a half page summary of the value of storytelling by leaders to influence in the business. Very basic, but I like the section on themes for stories and the application (opportunities) of storytelling in business. Article is HERE.

5 – PROBLEM acronym.

THIS article looks at the PROBLEM acronym and more in storytelling in a interview with Erik Bork. The visual below, by Holger Nils Pohl is a great visual reminder!

So over on Twitter, I asked people for additional resources to add here. I haven’t figured out yet in MarsEdit(my blogging programme) how to set up headings, so here they are with just BOLD text as titles:

6 – Visual Storytelling

Raffaelina Rossetti recommended THIS post by Sam Bradd. Whilst focused on a specific use, the visuals Sam has created are great! Go to the article to see this one and a pile more:

7 – Storytelling from a graphic novelist
Chris Spalton shared some of his really excellent Medium posts around how he thinks and plans the visual stories he creates around his father’s life and career, that of an Eelman (Visit HERE for the novel & store). THIS one is around comic strips and storyboards. THIS one looks at the complete story process. THIS final one he recommended was this one on the use of visuals to make the story memorable.

Greg Payne suggested consistency in visual style creates impact and shared with me THIS resource via Alan Klement.

Edward Tufte’s work in general is excellent and well worth exploring.
