This Saturday the Design & Innovation Faculty team from the Open University organised a visit for students to the London Design Museum. This was for all students across all courses and included visits to the public display of “Designer, Maker, User” and a visit to the Beazley Design Prize display, which we could access with a reduced entry charge.
The day was split in four parts:
- Small group visit of the the public display for 90 minutes. I ended up just walking around on my own as there was so much to see.
- A networking lunch, which was an hour to sit and chat with peers and students from the various years. We had some great discussions around the content of different courses and the OU study experience in general.
- A visit to the Beazley Designs of the year. There was some absolutely amazing things in here from a broad range of design areas.
- A group discussion led by faculty team members around our insights and thoughts for the day. A 45 minute wrap up and conversation. Sustainability was very much a large part of this discussion.
Overall the day was a great experience as it allowed us to meet a whole range of faculty and discuss with students who are further along their modules, how they were finding them. People were present from all four streams: art, engineering, business and environmental.
For my peers, I would strongly recommend going along to one of these if they live reasonable close to London. . The museum is excellent and the conversations we had were very interesting.
