Today I was discussing with one of my OU Apprentices the Kotter’s 8 Step model, as this is part of one of the modules. We discussed two areas and I thought I would leave here some of the resources I shared after our conversation:

Changes to the model

Quite a bit has changed in the 25 years or so since the idea was first developed. This articles looks at what has changed in the model: https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnkotter/2015/03/05/how-have-kotters-eight-steps-for-change-changed/#3fbfef6a3c7b
This is a formal mini guide from Kotter’s organisation on the model itself (Requires you to give details)  https://www.kotterinc.com/research-and-perspectives/8-steps-accelerating-change-ebook/

The need for a “burning platform”

The term “burning platform” has become quite popular in change efforts. I am not sure this is a great metaphor or if it is always needed. THIS blog post shares similar thoughts.  More important is to create a send of urgency: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/designing-urgency_us_589e03e0e4b0e172783a9b79 and it is supported by this, which can be applied to internal change: http://www.cmdagency.com/webvisions-2016/
Just a short Web Cutting Post to share something I stumbed upon. Do you have any thoughts around the model?
EDIT: Jack Martin Leith shared THIS .pdf guide guide to the latest version.
